Death and Resurrection

A death in the family and a death and resurrection at work. Amanda was given morphine to ease her pain, to which drug she proved allergic. She died and was revived.

My cousin's wife went swimming - climbed out of the pool, said, "I feel dizzy, everything's going black" and that was it, dead. What a way to go.

Oh, the voices were raised though less in anger than feigned loyalty to causes long forgotten and long ignored. Opposition? - more children's games, the shaking of sticks that would be guns and the pointless hail of words whose barbs were of little consequence falling as they did upon useless shields whose thin planks could not have suffered stones.

So what was the point? A victory? I think not, just that little sense of importance, that little show of power, that spitting against the wind which could only do him harm could he but see it. And so, pissed off again his name will be mentioned in dispatches again, and again for all the wrong reasons and when the slightest reason arises to replace him he will be gone. Why can he not see it, condemning himself almost before he has begun.

Ten Lords a Leaping
